Gift and Hope Playroom in Kiryandongo - Uganda

Gift & Hope Playroom Project

On 25 May 2022, Arop Yor Ayik Educational (AYAE) in collaboration with Help Yourself society limited (HYS) has successful opened Gift and Hope Playroom in Kiryandongo in The republic of Uganda. The playroom operates twice a week and it is managed solely by volunteers until funds becomes available in the near future.

Although, there were limited funds, we started the playroom with some of donations collected from crowdfunding and donated toys. The community spirit had proven priceless as all the workers involved in the playroom had generously volunteered their time to help us in accomplishing this project.  We give our gratitude and thanks to al the community who had supported us in this project. 

 

Introduction

 Age: 3-4 years

Location: HYS community house- Kiryandongo Campsite- Uganda

Number: 15 places per session

Session:3 hours a day

Frequency: Provisionally twice a week, Thursdays and Fridays but will increase to 5 days a week if we succeed in obtaining adequate funding.

Aims and objectives

• To provide a safe, stimulating and happy environment for each child

• Promote and practice equal opportunities and diversity regardless of race, ethnicity, ability, sex or religion

• Support children to build and form solid foundation in areas of communication and language, physical, social, personal and emotional development.

• Simple curriculum to include numeracy(Maths), Literacy(language) , understanding of the world( Science) and arts including music and drama.

Background

In Uganda, there are over 800,000 South Sudanese refugees according to UNHCR , over half of these refugees are children. In these camp, the preschool children have no access to toys or equipment to play with until they start schooling. The reason is, in the refugee camps there are no early years provision or education for preschool children. Play is an essential part of every child's development and plays a paramount and crucial part in their physical, social and intellectual development at this stage of the child's life. Parents ,in particular, mothers barely feeding their children are unable to provide toys

Let us help these vulnerable preschool children to develop their social, physical, emotional and intellectual skills through play.

Arop Yor Ayik Educational is asking for your support to raise funds for Gift and Hope playroom for 3-4 years old South Sudanese children living in Kiryandongo refugee camps in Uganda. All the donations will go directly towards purchasing equipment, toys, teaching materials and pay for Nursery worker and two volunteer's expenses.

Cost and expenditure

Rent: Free but the toilet and the doors needs renovating for the use of young children.

Area: 2 rooms, a small room used for storing equipment /stationery and toys; the big room is used for play.

Breakfast: Consist of porridge and a drink of water
